Club Rides
Saturday Bike
We meet outside Fitness First gym on St John's
Hill, by Clapham Junction station at 8:20am. We leave at 8:30am prompt, please
be on time as we leave promptly. If you are new to the bike session please make
yourself known to the group leader. There are weekly
rides that cater for intermediate and fast riders with a leader for each group,
and there are monthly beginner sessions too if you are newer to cycling or a bit
out of practice. The rides will be
posted to the forum each week.
Occasionally we will organise for everyone to do '3 timed laps' of
Richmond Park, this is suitable for all abilities and a good opportunity for
everyone to get together and measure improvement over the year. Please click
here for the Timed Laps Leaderboard.
Beginners Group
Once a month we will organise a beginner’s group
cycle that will ride out to Richmond Park and typically do 2 or 3 laps
before heading back to Clapham. The group is intended for those who are not yet
comfortable with doing a typical Intermediate Group ride, or who would struggle
to keep with the group. Intermediate and
fast group riders who are restricted on time are also welcome to join this
group doing laps at their own pace and joining the group afterwards for coffee
in Roehampton Gate Cafe. For
dates when these are organised please keep a look out on the forum.
Intermediate Group
The intermediate group take a more relaxed pace than the fast group, however
you should have a road bike and be comfortable with cycling at least 40 miles
averaging around 16mph. To give you an
idea you should be able to complete 1 lap of Richmond Park comfortably in less
than 25 minutes. The intermediate group will often stop half way at a cafe for
coffee and cake. If you are not sure of your ability please speak to one of the
tri committee members or come along to one of the Richmond Park 3 laps sessions
which are suitable for absolutely everyone and a good opportunity to meet
people.
Fast Group
The fast group aim to average around 19mph and will often do an extended
version of the intermediate route each week however please note this is not
always the case and if you get dropped from this group they will not wait for
you. You should be confident and experienced at riding in a group at speed.
What to bring
Please turn up to the rides with everything you need - pump, spare inner tube,
tyre levers, mobile phone and fluids. Over the winter ensure you have the
appropriate clothing (e.g. gloves, gillets, waterproofs, overshoes) and ideally
mudguards/SKS raceblades.
Before you attend these group rides please read our
Do’s and Don’ts of group riding so you are better prepared for these rides, the
Intermediate and Fast group should be well practised in using these skills and
if you are new to them we may ask that you attend our beginner session to help
you develop them.
