The Clapham Chasers are allocated 4 places in the London Marathon each year through our membership to England Athletics (which is determined by the number of athletes that we have registered with EA). We allocate our club spaces to members who meet certain criteria via a ballot (with winners usually drawn at the club’s Christmas Party).
As the April 2020 London Marathon was postponed due to COVID19, the organisers allowed runners to defer their entry to either the October 2021 marathon or the April 2022 event. They are therefore allocating the Clapham Chasers extra spaces to each event in order to maintain the number of club places to 4. We have 3 members who are taking part in the October 2021 marathon (from our 2020 club ballot) and therefore have ONE extra space to allocate via the usual ballot process.
The ballot is free to enter, but you must satisfy ALL the criteria below in order to be considered for a space, so please check that you do before entering. These are:
1. Must be a fully signed up member of Clapham Chasers for at least 1 Year.
2. Must be affiliated with England Athletics as a 1st claim Clapham Chaser.
3. Must have been rejected from the official VMLM 2021 ballot (held last October). Should you be the chosen lucky runner, you will be asked to provide evidence of your registration in the main ballot. Either your initial registration email or your rejection letter/email will be accepted.
4. Must not have run the 2019 London Marathon, either via the main ballot, Good-For-Age, Championship, Charity or the club ballot.
5. Must have volunteered in 2019/2020 at a major club event (TR20, 5ks of Christmas, Thorpe Park triathlon, Total Motion Aquathlon, Velopark Duathlon, etc.) or regularly* volunteer at weekly club sessions (Team 10k, Monday Social Run, etc.) or regularly* make a contribution to the running of the club in other ways (weekly results write-up, arranging socials, etc.)
*we realise the term 'regularly' is vague so if you're unsure please check with a member of the committee.
Having a space to the 2021 "virtual" London Marathon does not stop you from entering the ballot should you meet all the above criteria.
If you are lucky enough to be drawn from the ballot for the place, you will need to pay for your place (at the usual London Marathon entry price) via a special portal which the Club Secretary will contact you about.
Entries to this ballot will close on Friday 2nd July 2021 and the place will be drawn on Sunday 4th July.
Places for the April 2022 London Marathon will be allocated as usual later in the year.
