Our Club Rides

Clapham Chasers runs a range of weekly rides and training sessions for different abilities. Whether you're new to the club or a regular rider, our sessions are designed to help you ride safely, improve fitness, and enjoy riding with others.

Most rides are open to all members. To join the Saturday Group Ride, riders must first attend an Intro Ride.

Weekly ride details are posted on the Members Facebook page & WhatsApp community, usually a few days before each session.

Ride Safety

All riders participate in club rides at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety and the safety of others.

We strongly recommend all riders have appropriate third-party insurance as a minimum.

Please ensure you review the essential kit list and group riding guidelines before attending a ride.

Saturday Group Ride

The Saturday Group Ride (SGR) is the club’s main weekly ride and our principal endurance training session.

Routes typically head out to the country lanes of Surrey and Kent, offering a mix of rolling hills and quieter roads.

Routes

We usually offer two route options:

  • Long Route: 80–105 km
  • Short Route: 55–75 km

Routes and meeting details are posted each week on the Members Facebook page (usually Thursday).

The second Saturday of each month is reserved for Intro Rides, where new riders can learn the group ride format before joining the main ride.

Getting Started

Before joining the Saturday Group Ride, all members are expected to:

  • Attend an Intro to SGR Ride
  • Be familiar with group riding techniques and etiquette
  • Be self-sufficient if separated from the group (carry essential kit)
  • Occasionally volunteer to help lead an Intro Ride (typically once or twice per year)

Pace Groups

Riders are split into groups based on typical average speeds. This helps ensure everyone rides at a comfortable and sustainable pace.

Speeds vary depending on the terrain, so we use different estimates for hillier Surrey/Kent routes and flatter Windsor routes.

If you're unsure which group to join, speak to a ride leader during your Intro Ride.

All groups typically ride the same route, allowing riders to drop back to a slower group if needed.

If you are unable to maintain the pace of the slowest group, you may need to continue the ride independently or return via the nearest train station.
